Environmentally Clean

We use clean electric and biodiesel powered equipment for lawn mowing and landscape maintenance that is run on renewable energy. Our electric equipment is charged during the day by solar panels mounted on our trucks and overnight with wind power. Any emissions associated with powering our biodiesel equipment or driving our trucks are offset with verified vehicle emissions offsets purchased from Carbonfund.org. This reduces our mowing services net emissions to zero. We've also taken our commitment to being green a step further by offsetting our emissions company-wide, making us a carbon-neutral company from top to bottom!

We're also committed to educating our customers and the public on sustainable lawn care.

Quiet
Because we're electric, our equipment is noticeably quiet. The Department of Interior’s Green Seal report estimates electric lawn mowers cut noise emissions by 50-75%. This aspect is great for neighbors, working environments, napping children, and enjoying your day.

Competitive
Through comprehensive research and our innovative business model, we are able to offer the service at rates competitive to others. Rates vary by lawn size and locale. Get an estimate!

A History

Tired of watching grass grow? Watch Clean Air Lawn Care grow.

Three guys walked into a bar: A stockbroker, a tree-hugger, and Kelly Giard. Kelly Giard was in the market for a lawn mower and asked the stock broker what kind of mower he used.

"I've got people that take care of that for me - looks great." "Must be nice, Fancypants," said Kelly, and turned the same question to the tree-hugger, "How 'bout you, Greenie?"

"I don't have one either. I'll let mine go to seed before I use those noisy smog stacks."

"Ok, Happypants," Kelly mumbled.

That was 2003. Bad news: Kelly was drinking alone that night. Good news: a seed, Clean Air Lawn Care was planted - probably bluegrass because it sprouted and spread.

In the summer of 2005, a family friend, Katie Van Sant, was looking for some summer work before she headed off to graduate school at the Bard Center for Environment Policy. Kelly turned her loose with a "project." Her mission: model a profitable lawn mowing crew that significantly reduced air pollution. She succeeded.

By the spring of 2006, Clean Air was up and running in Fort Collins, Colorado. With very little advertising and a late season start, Kelly led a grassroots effort and the rubber met the road. This time though, it was more like starting a fire than planting a seed.

Embracing his inner tree-hugger, Kelly's long-time buddy, Gerry Keane, threw his Manhattan financial muscle behind Clean Air Lawn Care to help fan those flames.

In early 2007, we brought on Annie Carey and Michelle Holbrook to take Clean Air nationwide. We opened 10 locations to test our eco-friendly lawn service model in markets across the country. The response was overwhelming: Clean Air Lawn Care became a leader in the movement of 'green' going mainstream.

We began forming working relationships with industry leaders such as Black & Decker, Patagonia, Neuton, Carbonfund.org, New Belgium Brewery, and In Harmony - to name a few. That year, Stephanie Giard retired from full-time momdom and started our grassroots national branding campaign.

Since 2008 our family has grown to include local owners in Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Texas, North Carolina and many other locations. We're growing Clean Air from coast to coast and we need your help. Buy a Clean Air franchise, get a free estimate, or work for Clean Air today!

Annie Carey – Marketing Goddess

How I got here: I spent the first part of my life in a suburb of Chicago until the age of 10 when my parents died. My five brothers and sisters and I (the oldest 20 years old, the youngest six years old) began exploring, living in some rather unconventional ways in many wonderful places (a cabin in the woods in Minnesota, the rainforest in Washington) and spending summers on my brother’s off-the-grid farm in Missouri. These experiences taught me a great deal and instilled a fairly unique way of seeing the world.

I went on to work as an elementary school teacher and Community Marketing Manager for Wild Oats, among other things. I love working with people who are making a difference socially and environmentally.

Home is now Fort Collins, Colorado where I live with my son, Matthew Quinn (who is passionate about the planet and all the creatures that live on it) and our dog, Clover (who is passionate about chasing squirrels). My passions include a love for turtles, eating blueberries and dark chocolate, playing with dogs, creating aromatherapy blends, being with good friends, and dancing (I dance everyday!). I love all kinds of music – Dave Matthews, Sarah McLachlan, music played by family and friends and always, the Grateful Dead … “Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right…”

Nate Weigel - Director of Sales

After growing up in Cincinnati and attaining a BFA from the University of Cincinnati's DDAP (Design, Architecture, Art and Planning) program, I relocated to Colorado in 2008. I was drawn to Fort Collins because of its vibrant culture, natural beauty, and the potential for the city to become a global leader in environmental business and clean energy development. As Director of Sales for Clean Air Lawn Care, I am fortunate to have the opportunity to bridge the gap between business development and environmental protection.

In addition to helping grow Clean Air, I currently serve as the Communications Chair for the US Green Building Council Colorado, Northern Branch. I spend my free time skiing, painting, enjoying the outdoors and the local music scene and meeting the great people of this community.

I moved to Colorado after my husband, Dominick and I decided we couldn't take another summer in Texas. The mountains called our name and here we are. I love all activities that require you be outdoors, hiking, camping, triathlons and sports requiring a frisbee. Dominick and I have one dog, Barley and she is a fantastic pile of affectionate energy.

Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend and Josh Garrels are usually in my CD player and there is probably some sort of biography or memoir nearby. I am also a certified personal trainer hoping to educate the world about healthier lifestyle choices and the joy of playing outside.

I came to Clean Air Lawn Care soon after moving to Ft. Collins and love it here! I never thought I would ever be someone in an office that people went to for help with Quickbooks but that's life for you. You never know.
